Different Appointments for Different Needs
Every patient is different and that is why at Oakfield Health Centre we have a flexible appointments system.
Telephone Appointments
Our telephone appointment system is designed to stop you having to wait for a face to face appointment for simple problems and queries when a conversation for some guidance or advice from the doctor will do. All enquiries will be triaged by a Healthcare Professional who will allocate the appropriate priority based on the information provided. All emergency appointments are allocated by our triage system on the day.
Because telephone appointments allow greater flexibility for some patients in specific circumstances, the reception team may offer you a telephone appointment. Please be aware that calls from the surgery may come up as 'Private Number Calling' so please do not ignore this if you are expecting a call. The Practice policy is that the GP or Nurse Practitioner will call once and leave a message to call the surgery if the phone is not answered.
Minor Illness
For minor illnesses such as coughs and colds we would encourage you to consult the Minor Illness service at our adjacent pharmacy and ensure that you have looked at our minor illness advice on this website. The surgery follows national guidelines on best practice in treating minor illnesses and so you should not necessarily expect a prescription or antibiotics for viral infections or other minor illness. In some cases you might need to be seen in which case the doctor will invite you to come to the surgery for an appointment based on your clinical need.
Face to Face Appointments
Our booked face to face appointments are designed for non-urgent or ongoing problems when time is not a pressing issue.
On-Line Appointments
On-line appointments are available to book if you have registered for on-line services. For further advice please see further advice on this website.
To Save You Time:
Medical Certificates: If you have an ongoing medical certificate that requires authorisation please complete the required form here and send to the surgery. This can then be assessed by the doctor based on your medical requirements and an appointment can be suggested when it is needed.
Hayfever: If you need medication for hayfever please collect a letter from the surgery and take it to the pharmacy.
Contraception: For routine pill checks, if you don't have any problems or difficulties, please book an appointment with the Healthcare Assistant.
For all other contraceptive advice, (including contraceptive injections) please make an appointment to see one of our Practice Nurses.
