Oakfield Health Centre’s priority is to provide safe, timely and accessible GP services to patients who live within our practice boundary.
If you move outside our practice area, you may be asked to register with a GP practice closer to your new home address. This is because local registration helps ensure access to routine care, urgent appointments, home visits where needed, community services, and local health and social care support.
We recognise that many patients who move away would like to remain registered with Oakfield Health Centre. We are grateful for the confidence this reflects in our practice. However, demand for GP appointments is very high, and accepting large numbers of patients from outside the local area can disadvantage patients living locally, who reasonably expect priority access to services in their own area.
For this reason, requests to remain registered as an out of area patient are considered on a case-by-case basis and are approved only exceptionally. Approval is usually limited to situations where there is a clear clinical reason why continuing care at Oakfield Health Centre is necessary and appropriate.
Out of area registration is voluntary for GP practices. If we agree to continue your registration as an out of area patient, please be aware that the practice is not required to provide home visits. If you become unwell at home and cannot attend the surgery, you may be directed to local urgent care services closer to where you live.
If your health needs change in the future, we may review whether it remains appropriate for you to stay registered with Oakfield Health Centre. In some circumstances, we may advise you to register with a GP practice closer to your home so that your care can be provided safely and appropriately.
If you are moving house or believe you may now live outside our practice boundary, please contact the practice so that we can review your registration status.
